What is the age range for people living in your facilities?

The average age is 84, with the range between 70 and over 110.

What is the difference between independent living, assisted living and memory care?

Independent living is for active seniors who manage their own lives but want meals, housekeeping and home maintenance handled. Assisted living supports daily needs such as dressing, toileting and mobility. Memory care also provides daily-living help together with dementia-specific programming and resident safety in a secure environment. Care services are provided by LPNs and Certified Nursing Assistants, or an RN when needed. The current FAQ also notes that Liberty Shores offers independent living, assisted living and memory-care support.

What kinds of meals do your facilities serve?

Northwest Care Senior Living Communities meals are overseen by award-winning chefs who work with a dietitian to create well-rounded and nutritious meals.

How do people pay for retirement and assisted living care?

Many residents pay privately using pension, Social Security income and savings. Some sell their homes and use the resulting nest egg. Medicare does not pay for assisted living.

Are there outdoor areas for recreation?

Each facility is different, but all provide outdoor grounds for residents. Seasonal landscaping surrounds patios, walkways and seating areas.

What does ADL mean?

ADL stands for Activities of Daily Living. It is a phrase used by health-care providers when evaluating a potential resident. Activities include bathing, grooming and personal hygiene.

Are assisted living facilities licensed or inspected?

The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services licenses and regulates assisted living facilities. Facilities are reviewed annually by DSHS inspectors who arrive unannounced to review operations.

Can residents call for help from their apartments in an emergency?

Residents' rooms have intercoms and call systems, and bathrooms have pull cords. These systems are monitored 24 hours a day.

What is the difference between an assisted living community and a skilled nursing facility?

Assisted living is licensed under a boarding-home model and can provide many care services. Some specific nursing services can only be provided in a skilled nursing facility, also called a nursing home, which operates under a different state license.

What do you mean by rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is a process residents go through as they return to their former level of activities following a debilitating event.

What does Aging in Place mean?

It is the natural progression of changes that occur as a person grows older. Northwest Care communities are designed to provide a continuum of care so a resident does not have to move each time needs change. Increased care levels help residents remain in familiar surroundings as long as possible.
